Define the level of detail you need
Knowing an asset last reported at a building is different from knowing which room or shelf contains it. Describe the business decision in those terms. Room-level requirements may need a different design from an outdoor asset-tracking setup.
Ask how the location is produced
Different devices use different combinations of positioning information. Ask what the selected model can provide indoors, how the platform shows uncertainty, and what happens when no usable location is available. An indoor marker should not automatically be interpreted as a precise point.
Test normal storage conditions
Try the equipment in its actual case, cabinet, warehouse area, and vehicle if those are part of the routine. Building materials and surrounding objects can change results. A test near an open door may not represent a device stored deeper inside.
Choose the right follow-up
For some businesses, a last-reported building plus a checkout record is enough. Others need a more detailed site design. SmartCore can discuss that distinction before recommending hardware. Keep the expected level of location detail in the proposal so the result can be evaluated fairly.
PUT IT TO WORK
Your planning checklist
- Decide whether building-level or finer detail is needed.
- Confirm the model’s location methods.
- Test actual storage positions.
- Agree how uncertain or missing locations are displayed.
