Protect the equipment first

Identify moving parts, hot surfaces, lifting points, service panels, and places exposed to impact. The tracker should not interfere with operation or routine maintenance. Confirm the attachment method with the equipment owner and follow the device manufacturer’s instructions.

Think about everyday handling

Equipment may be pressure washed, loaded with straps, stacked, or transported in metal compartments. Describe those conditions before choosing an enclosure and mounting location. A device’s environmental rating only applies within its specified installation and use conditions.

Document the assignment

Record the device identifier, asset name, installation date, and a photograph of the mounting location. Keep that inventory somewhere authorized staff can find it. Without it, a replacement device or equipment transfer can leave the dashboard pointing to the wrong asset.

Test after mounting

Verify a report from the final installed position, then test an ordinary movement and parked period. Confirm the platform name, timestamp, and any intended alert. An installation is not fully checked just because a device reported successfully while it was sitting on a workbench.

PUT IT TO WORK

Your planning checklist

  • Confirm safe clearances and attachment.
  • Check environmental suitability.
  • Record the device-to-asset assignment.
  • Test final-position reporting and alerts.
