Describe the asset before choosing a device

A survey instrument case, a generator, and a compact machine have different constraints. Record the available space, whether equipment moves indoors, how it is cleaned, and whether a tracker can remain attached during normal use. A good installation must work with the asset rather than make it harder to use.

Choose the object you actually need to follow

A tracker on a vehicle follows the vehicle. A tracker on a carrying case follows the case. If equipment is routinely removed, those are different records. Decide which object answers your business question and label the tracker accordingly so the dashboard does not imply more than it knows.

Plan maintenance access

Battery-powered hardware avoids a permanent power connection, but batteries and mounting still need attention. Choose a location that can be inspected without damaging the equipment or defeating its protective enclosure. Follow the device manufacturer’s mounting and environmental requirements.

Try a complete handoff

Test an ordinary move from storage to a job and back, including a change of vehicle if that happens in practice. Compare the reports with what actually moved. SmartCore can help assess an unusual asset; an initial conversation should establish feasibility before anyone promises a universal solution.

PUT IT TO WORK

Your planning checklist

  • Photograph the proposed mounting area.
  • Identify the exact object being followed.
  • Describe storage and cleaning conditions.
  • Test one complete working cycle.
