Establish what stopped reporting
Check the last report from the gateway and the associated sensors. If several sensors stop together, investigate the shared communication path. If one sensor is missing while others are current, start with that sensor’s power, placement, and connection. These are troubleshooting clues, not a complete diagnosis.
Check the ordinary dependencies
Ask the site contact whether power, internet service, or network settings changed. Follow the equipment provider’s approved recovery steps and avoid making undocumented changes to the business network. Keep any sensitive network credentials out of ordinary support messages.
Use the operational backup
An old reading that was within range does not establish current conditions. Follow the site’s manual checks or other approved backup process while the monitoring path is unavailable. Confirm who owns that process before an outage happens.
Verify recovery rather than assuming it
When service returns, check for new timestamps from the affected sensors and confirm the intended notifications still work. Ask whether the selected hardware stores and forwards readings during an outage; do not assume missing data will always be recovered. Record the cause if known and any corrective change.
PUT IT TO WORK
Your planning checklist
- Check which devices stopped and when.
- Review power and network changes.
- Use the site’s backup checking process.
- Confirm fresh readings after recovery.
