Follow the information path

A temperature or leak sensor measures a condition and sends a report. The on-site gateway receives those wireless reports and forwards them through the configured internet connection. The platform then displays readings and applies the configured alert rules. Each part needs to work for a new reading to reach the person responsible.

Plan the gateway location

Choose the position after reviewing sensor locations, building materials, power, and the intended network connection. A convenient outlet is not enough if sensors cannot communicate reliably from their final positions. Test difficult areas such as cold rooms and equipment spaces during the site assessment.

Watch the connection as well as the temperature

A lack of new readings is different from a normal reading. Ask how the platform identifies a sensor or gateway that has stopped reporting and who receives that notification. An old “normal” value should not be mistaken for current conditions during an outage.

Do not confuse it with cellular tracking

The cellular Yabby Edge and BARRA Edge tracking options discussed on this site do not use this on-site monitoring gateway. They have their own connectivity requirements. If a project includes both fleet tracking and building sensors, plan the two communication paths explicitly rather than assuming one device connects everything.

PUT IT TO WORK

Your planning checklist

  • Identify every sensor location.
  • Confirm gateway power and internet access.
  • Test readings from final positions.
  • Configure and test missing-report notifications.
