Decide what you are measuring

Air temperature, a surface temperature, and a probe measurement are different observations. Describe the operational question first and select a suitable sensor or probe. Do not assume a device mounted outside the door measures conditions inside the refrigerated space.

Review the space with the operator

Identify normal loading areas, airflow, door activity, cleaning methods, and places where equipment could be damaged. Ask the responsible refrigeration or food-safety professional to confirm the measurement requirement and acceptable limits for that operation. A generic threshold is not a substitute for the site’s procedures.

Install without compromising the enclosure

Follow the sensor and refrigeration equipment instructions for mounting and probe routing. Avoid pinching a cable in a door seal or improvising a penetration. Where a probe arrangement is appropriate, agree how the cable will be secured and how the enclosure remains serviceable.

Validate during normal use

Check readings and communication with the doors closed and the room operating normally. Compare observations using a suitable reference method agreed for the site. Record the sensor location and any configuration changes so future staff understand what the readings represent.

PUT IT TO WORK

Your planning checklist

  • Define the measurement: air, surface, or probe.
  • Review placement with the site operator.
  • Protect seals and service access.
  • Test readings and communication in normal operation.
